Of course! It's time for a "Best Of '08" Post.
Man Of The Year: Obama. Just like Time Magazine - you don't have to be a fan of the man to name him "Man Of The Year". I mean he knocked off the Clintons, ran an incredibly well organized campaign and has arrived at the pinnacle of world power with virtually no credentials or experience. He get's nothing for knocking off the Republicans. A yellow dog could have done that, but Obama's definetly got something going for him.
Woman Of The Year: That's easy. Jodi Hammerstrom. She makes it all happen. Go to my archives, September 2nd, for some more reasons.
Favorite New Song: "Let Us Love & Sing & Wonder" by Jars Of Clay. John Newton (1700's) wrote the lyrics, Laura Taylor gave us a beautiful new tune and JOC polished it.
Favorite New Album: Lunasa's "The Story So Far". Not a new album, just new to me. Ricky tried to turn me on to this Irish supergroup fifteen years ago. I'm slow.
Best Read: James Boice's commentary on the Psalms. A great place to camp your head for a year.
Memorable Meals: Some times it is about the food, some times it is about the company. Lauren's welcome home crab legs and filet mignon. James Hyndman's famous pasta. Bread, cheese and German wine with Heike and David. D & J birthday dinner at the Broadmoor's Penrose Room. Pre-ski egg/cheese/potato/ham/bacon/sausage/onion skillet at Tom's in Winter Park. Graduation breakfast with the visiting Oregonians. The Castillo's Argentine dinner. The McMordie feast. Too many others to recount...
Best Quote: "All cultures have a religion at the core, and to use the words of Tillich, all societies have a shared set of "ultimate concerns." And when that shared set of ultimate concerns comes out in the worship of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, there is no way to keep that faith from shaping the culture. As the faith is imperfect, so will the shaping be. But give it time. Yeast doesn't work through the loaf in five minutes." (from the quote master his self, Doug Wilson)
My Best Photo: Side Car Labs - Salida, Colorado
